Sloane Stephens (30th-ranked USA) defeated Karolina Pliskova (16th-ranked Czech Republic) in the first round of the French Open tennis tournament (€49.6 million/$70.6 million in prize money).
Stephens defeated Pliskova 2-0 (6-0 6-4) in the first round of the women’s singles on day two of the tournament at Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France, on Monday (Sept. 29).
Stevens, whose accomplishments include winning the 2017 U.S. Open and finishing runner-up at the 2018 French Open, married U.S. soccer player George Altidore in January 2022.
She reached a high of No. 3 in the world in 2018, but her recent form has seen her slip back down to the top 30, and she was ranked No. 36 before the tournament was seeded, meaning she was not seeded in the top 32.스포츠토토
Pliskova, who lost to Stevens on Sunday, was ranked No. 1 in 2017, but her best results at majors are the 2016 US Open and 2021 Wimbledon runner-up.
She had a weak showing at the French Open, losing in the second round for three consecutive years from 2020 to 2022, and this year she was upset in the first round by top-seeded Stephens.
Stevens will meet the winner of the Barbara Gracheva (41st-Russia)-Dalma Galfi (98th-Hungary) match in the second round.
