Arsenal have re-signed midfielder Xhaka, 21.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of England international striker Xhaka on a new long-term contract,” the Gunners said on their website on Wednesday.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “Extending Xhaka’s contract is great for the club. Retaining top young talent is key to our continued development and he represents an important part of the squad for now and for the future,” Arteta said.

Saka said: “I’m really happy. “There’s been a lot of talk, a lot of time has passed, and now I’m here. I think Arsenal is the right place to grow to the next level. It’s a beautiful club. I think I have everything I need to be a top player. That’s why I’m happy to stay here and entrust my future to the club. Because I really believe we can achieve great things.”

Xhaka is an Arsenal Youth product. He joined the Gunners’ youth system at the age of seven and progressed through the ranks, making his first-team debut in the UEFA Europa League (UEL) in the 2018-19 season. Two months later, he made his English Premier League (EPL) debut.

He has a lot going for him. Xhaka’s quickness and fluid footwork give him an edge against opposing defenses. His ability to utilize his teammates allows him to play at a high level. He also has the versatility to play on the right wing as well as the left winger and mezzala roles.

Explosive growth. He started and came off the bench in 2019-20, scoring four goals and providing 12 assists in 39 official games.
