A pitch he was sure was an out, but an unfamiliar gray ceiling blew the game away.
The Lotte Giants played an away game against the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on the 19th. Na Kyun-an was the starting pitcher for Lotte. Na Gyun-ahn, who was named the Monthly MVP after going 4-0 with a 1.34 ERA in 33⅔ innings in five games in April, had been sidelined with a sore hamstring since the 25th of last month against Doosan.
Lotte set the tone early on. In the top of the first inning, Ahn Kwon-soo led off with a single and Kim Min-seok followed with a double. With runners on second and third, Lee Jung-hoon grounded out to score the first run.
In the top of the second inning, Lotte continued to score. One out later, Noh Jin-hyuk singled and advanced to second on an error. Yoo Kang-nam singled to load the bases, and Ahn Kwon-soo followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kiwoom fought back. Kim Hwijip doubled, Joo Sung-won walked, and Lee Ju-hyung hit a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the fifth, pinch-hitter Kim Jun-wan led off with a single. A sacrifice bunt by Kim Tae-jin, a walk by Kim Hye-sung and an infield single by Dawson put runners on second and third. Dawson stole second off Song Sung-moon, putting runners on second and third.
Song Sung-moon then hit a fly ball to left field, a high fly that went near the ceiling of the Gocheok Dome. Left fielder Lee Jung-hoon could catch it, but as he rushed forward, he hesitated for a moment and the ball landed right in front of him.
The grayish ceiling of the Gocheok Dome, which resembles a baseball, often causes balls to be missed. Lee was originally a catcher, but after being released by KIA last year, he came to Lotte and started playing in the outfield. He rarely had to field balls hit into the Gocheok Dome.
Na Gyun-an would sit back and shake his head in disappointment when Lee missed the ball.
Song Sung-moon singled, putting runners on second and third. Kiwoom tied the game at 3-2. Na Kyun-an struck out Kim Hwijip to end the inning.먹튀검증
Song Sung-moon’s RBI double would prove to be the final hit of the game as Lotte’s bats failed to respond. Kiwoom added a run in the sixth inning on a solo home run by Kim Dong-hun to put the game out of reach and win 4-2.
Throwing a total of 99 pitches, including a fastball that topped out at 145 km/h and a mix of forks (32), cutters (13), and curves (13), Na eventually finished the game with five innings, six hits, four walks, and three runs with five strikeouts.
Not a bad performance for a return from injury. However, one pitch that he left too high was enough to end the game.
