Except for the 36th stolen base, it didn’t work.
For the second straight game, the San Diego Padres’ Ha Sung Kim failed to get a hit. The only consolation was that he walked and stole his 36th base of the season.
Kim has clearly run out of steam. As the season comes to a close, it’s clear that he’s been running out of gas. Kim started at first and second base against the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California, on April 16 (KST). Kim went 0-for-5 with a walk and a strikeout on the day, snapping a two-game hitting drought. His batting average dropped to 2-for-6 on the season.
Kim’s bat has definitely lost power. In the first inning, Kim hit a line drive to center field. In the second inning, he had a golden opportunity. He stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded. However, he struck out swinging against Newcomb. He persevered, working the count to seven pitches, but came up empty-handed. Tatis Jr. followed with an RBI double to minimize the damage for San Diego. After striking out, Kim was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning.
But he saved his pride as the leadoff hitter in the sixth inning. One out later, he walked on a straight grounder, proving that his legs were still strong. With Tatis Jr. at 1B, he stole second base. His 36th stolen base of the season. Four away from 40 steals. However, he was unable to score as the next two batters were stranded.먹튀검증
The 40-steal challenge was nice, but it almost didn’t happen. He complained of pain in his left ankle while stealing. Manager Bob Melvin and the trainers checked his condition, and the determined Kim played until the end.
In his final at-bat in the ninth inning, Kim grounded out to shortstop. It was a day of nothing but stolen bases. At least the team won 8-3 to take some of the pressure off.
